Mark Sheets joined Bass, Berry & Sims as an associate in 1990, became a Member of the firm in 1997 and is the chair of the Commercial Transactions and Real Estate Practice Area.
In 2004, Mark was named as one of Nashville's Heavy Hitters in Commercial Real Estate by the Nashville Business Journal. For a number of years, he has been listed in the Best Lawyers® and has been named one of Tennessee's leading real estate lawyers by Chambers USA. Mark has also been listed in Nashville Business Journal’s "Best of the Bar," a distinction earned exclusively by nominations from other attorneys.
Mark has a broad background in the area of commercial real estate and has substantial experience in virtually all aspects of acquisition, disposition, financing, sale-leaseback, development, leasing and ground leasing of a wide variety of commercial properties.
Mark’s specific areas of emphasis include the following:
- Retail Development: Mark is very active in retail real estate circles and represents a number of clients in connection with the acquisition and development of retail property. Mark's experience includes development, construction, acquisition, leasing and disposition of new and existing shopping centers, lifestyle centers, stand alone retail stores, restaurants and other retail properties.
- Healthcare Real Estate: Mark has substantial experience representing healthcare companies in the acquisition, development, financing, disposition and sale-leaseback of real estate. Mark’s clients include owners and operators of senior housing facilities, hospitals, surgery centers, medical office buildings and other healthcare businesses.
- Office and Industrial: Mark represents a number of clients acquiring or leasing core properties, including office headquarters, warehouses, manufacturing facilities and data centers.
- Distressed Assets: Mark is a member of the Firm’s Distressed Asset Task Force and frequently advises clients seeking to acquire, finance, restructure or sell distressed assets and/or debt.
Originally from Kentucky, Mark graduated with honors from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky in 1987. Mark later attended the University of Kentucky School of Law, where he graduated with honors in 1990. While at UK, Mark served as an editor of the University of Kentucky Law Journal.
Aside from the practice of law, Mark enjoys travel and sports, particularly basketball, football and golf. As a native Kentuckian, Mark is an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan and lifetime member of the Blue Mist.
