Lillian Blackshear joined Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in September 2008 as an associate in the firm’s Commercial Transactions and Real Estate Practice Area.

Lillian is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, and received her B.A. in economics summa cum laude from Spelman College in 2005. At Spelman, Lillian was a Presidential Scholar, elected to Phi Beta Kappa and named the Most Outstanding Student in Economics.

She received her law degree summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2008. At the University of Tennessee, Lillian was an articles editor for the Tennessee Law Review and a member of both the Black Law Students Association and the Student Bar Association. She was also elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and received the Black Law Students Association’s Frank Ennix Award for Excellence. Upon graduation from law school, Lillian was admitted into the Order of the Coif.

Her case note “Constitutional Law—State Constitution of Tennessee—Term Limits in a County Charter Authorized Under Tennessee Code Annotated Section 5-1-210(4) and Article VII, Section 1 of the Tennessee Constitution” was published in the Spring 2007 issue of the Tennessee Law Review. Her article entitled “Wait…What Did I Just Say: What Lawyers Need to Be Concerned About When Issuing Third-Party Closing Opinions” is scheduled to be published in the Fall 2008 issue of Transactions: Tennessee Journal of Business Law.
