Mr. Simmons joined Bass, Berry & Sims in 1976.  Since September 1, 1995, he has served as the firm's managing partner and chair of the firm's management committee.

Mr. Simmons' practice specialty is public finance.  His career as a public finance attorney spans almost three decades and has encompassed financings for some of the smallest communities in the State of Tennessee to major, high-profile transactions for the major metropolitan areas in the State, such as, the financing of LP Field, the home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans; the financing of the Sommet Center, a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Nashville, which is the home of the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League; financings by various energy acquisition corporations formed under Tennessee's energy acquisition corporation statute, including financings to purchase long-term supplies of energy; and developing the use of public building authorities in Tennessee as a financing mechanism.

Mr. Simmons is a native Kentuckian.  He spent two years in the United States Air Force as a missile launch officer where he also obtained a Master of Science in economics from South Dakota State University.  He joined Bass, Berry & Sims upon his graduation from law school.  He is active in community affairs, having served as the founding president of the Nashville Public Library Foundation and served on various other civic and non-profit boards.
