E. Bruce Foster, Jr. Honored by Knoxville Bar Association and Best Lawyers
Knoxville, Tenn., December 15, 2009 – E. Bruce Foster, Jr., member at the Knoxville offices of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, was presented the Knoxville Bar Association’s Governors’ Award at the group's recent annual meeting. The Governor’s Award is the organization’s highest honor, recognizing attorneys that have “consistently and generously” served their profession and community.
The award is represented by a plaque with the inscription: “The Governors’ Award is hereby conferred upon E. Bruce Foster, Jr. by the Knoxville Bar Association for the distinction and honor brought to the profession by enduring, faithful and distinguished service in this community.”
Foster was also recently named Knoxville 2010 Corporate Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. Statewide, six attorneys from the firm have received the distinction of Lawyer of the Year in their specialties.
Foster has practiced in the Bass, Berry & Sims PLC office in Knoxville since it opened in 1991. His practice concentrates on general business law and mediation. Foster earned B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee. He served as president of the Knoxville Bar Association and president of the Young Lawyers Conference of the Tennessee Bar Association and as a member of the Tennessee Appellate Court Nominating Commission. He served in the Tennessee State Constitutional Convention of 1977, and from 1980-81, he served as an appointed Special Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Foster is a member of the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society, the Lex Mundi College of Mediators and the Hamilton Burnett Inn of the American Inns of Court, which has designated him Master of the Bench. He is a mediator certified by the Tennessee Supreme Court under Rule 31, and certified by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He is a fellow of the Tennessee and Knoxville Bar Foundations. Foster has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 1987.
After more than a quarter of a century in publication, Best Lawyers is designating “Lawyers of the Year” in high-profile legal specialties in large legal communities. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is being honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. The current, 16th edition of The Best Lawyers in America® (2010), is based on more than 2.8 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.
The lawyers being honored as “Lawyers of the Year” have received particularly high ratings in Best Lawyers surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
Steven Naifeh, Managing Editor of Best Lawyers, says, “We continue to believe – as we have believed for more than 25 years – that recognition by one’s peers is the most meaningful form of praise in the legal profession. We would like to congratulate E. Bruce Foster, Jr. on being selected as the ‘Knoxville Corporate Lawyer of the Year’ for 2010.”
