Ms. Zeigler is a Member of the firm, and has practiced with Bass, Berry & Sims PLC since 1993. Ms. Zeigler's practice encompasses both civil litigation and environmental matters. Her litigation practice includes products liability and pharmaceutical defense, with particular focus in retaining and working with experts. Ms. Zeigler's experience with class action products liability litigation includes:
- Retaining and working with experts on a national level for cases set for trial in federal or state courts, both in Tennessee and in other jurisdictions;
- Assembling and mastering literature about the scientific and medical issues presented in the cases;
- Training other attorneys on the scientific and medical issues presented in the cases;
- Deposing treating doctors and plaintiffs' retained experts;
- Overseeing the collection and organization of medical records and other media;
- Working with the defense's retained experts, preparing expert reports and preparing experts for deposition and trial testimony;
- Developing case defenses and strategies based upon scientific and medical evidence; and
- Conducting quality assurance reviews of cases set for trial in out-of-state jurisdictions.
Ms. Zeigler's environmental experience includes:
- Prosecution and defense of federal claims under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act ("Superfund" cases) and other federal and state environmental statutes;
- Toxic tort defense;
- Prosecution and defense of federal and state citizen suit actions;
- Defense of federal and state enforcement actions;
- Initiation of condemnation proceedings; and
- Prosecution and defense of state law tort actions involving allegations of contaminated property.
In addition, Ms. Zeigler represents clients in connection with the investigation and cleanup of contaminated properties. She assists clients with sites that are under the jurisdiction of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and/or the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation ("TDEC"), including TDEC's Divisions of Superfund, Underground Storage Tanks, and Solid Waste Management. She also has experience with matters involving the Tennessee Occupational, Safety and Health Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and with mold remediation.
Ms. Zeigler's corporate experience entails assisting both buyers and sellers of real property, corporate stock or asset purchases in assessing potential environmental liabilities associated with both property acquisitions and company operations, negotiating and drafting environmental indemnity and access agreements; preparing environmental representations and warranties, and transferring environmental permits or obtaining new permits.
Ms. Zeigler was a 1993 Order of the Coif graduate of Vanderbilt School of Law, where she earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. While at Vanderbilt, she served as student writing editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review . A summa cum laude graduate from Syracuse University in 1986, Ms. Zeigler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism, graduated as a Newhouse Scholar, and was appointed to several honorary societies, including Phi Beta Kappa.
Ms. Zeigler is a member of the American Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Association. She is an editor of the Tennessee Environmental Law Letter.
