John Seehorn joined Bass, Berry & Sims in September 2001 as an associate in the firm's Commercial Transactions and Real Estate Practice Area. John's practice includes commercial lending, secured transactions, real estate and general commercial law. His experience includes:
- Representing sellers and buyers of real estate, both within and outside of Tennessee, including zoning and planning matters
- Representing developers with respect to a variety of projects, including office buildings, both within and outside of Tennessee
- Representing developers in hotel, office, retail and residential condominium projects
- Representing landlords and tenants in the negotiation of commercial leases for a wide variety of uses
- Acting as borrower counsel in multi-state real estate secured transactions
- Representing borrowers and financial institutions in asset-based, revolving credit, term and construction loan facilities
- Representing mezzanine lenders in subordinated loan transactions, including structuring equity participations and intercreditor arrangements with senior lenders
- Representing financial institutions in troubled loan transactions
- Representing companies in the negotiation and preparation of general commercial agreements
John is a native of Newport, Tennessee, and received his B.S. in engineering management from the United States Military Academy in 1991. Before beginning his legal education in the fall of 1998, he completed seven years of service as an officer in the United States Army, graduating from the United States Army Flight School in 1992. He served with the 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Stanley, Korea, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia.
John received his law degree summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2001. At the University of Tennessee, John was elected to the Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi.
John lives in Franklin with his wife, Melissa, and daughters, Ellie and Caroline. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church of Franklin and the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County, an organization devoted to preserving and protecting the historic resources of Franklin and Williamson County.
