John focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation with a special emphasis in the areas of construction and environmental law. Prior to attending law school, John practiced civil and environmental engineering in Nashville. As a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Tennessee, John is able to bring a technical understanding of his clients’ interests and goals to their legal representation.
Construction and Real Estate: John represents clients in various construction transactions and disputes. His experience includes preparing and negotiating construction agreements, as well as preparing construction drawings and specifications. John also represents owners, developers, contractors, and designers in construction related disputes.
Environmental: John represents clients in both environmental disputes and regulatory enforcement actions. He also counsels clients regarding environmental permitting and compliance. John has provided legal representation, consulting, and design services to industries, utilities, and municipalities, in the following areas:
- Water and wastewater treatment;
- Storm water management;
- Site remediation;
- Hazardous waste management; and
- Water use rights.
Products Liability and Mass Torts: John’s experience working with manufacturers in a wide variety of industries and his background in science and engineering provide a foundation for comprehensive legal representation in disputes involving products and chemicals.
John is a contributing author of the Water Quality Control Handbook, and an article summarizing his thesis on reaeration in rivers and streams was published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering.
John and his wife, Ginger, have two sons.
