John Dawson joined the firm as an associate in the Litigation Practice in September 2008. John is also a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Tennessee.

John graduated from the University of Tennessee magna cum laude with a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon engineering honor societies. John received his M.S. in environmental engineering from Vanderbilt University. An article summarizing his thesis on reaeration in rivers and streams was published in the Journal of Environmental Engineering.

Prior to attending law school, John was a civil and environmental engineer in Nashville with E. Roberts Alley & Associates and Camp, Dresser & McKee. As an engineer, John provided consulting and design services to industries, utilities, and municipalities, primarily in the areas of wastewater treatment and storm water management. He is also a contributing author of the Water Quality Control Handbook, published by McGraw Hill.

John joined Bass, Berry & Sims following his 2008 graduation from the University of Tennessee College of Law cum laude. While in law school, John was a student attorney in the UT Legal Clinic, a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and a recipient of the Katz Family Scholarship. He also served on the Moot Court Board and was a member of the National Environmental Law Moot Court Team.

John and his wife, Ginger, have two children.
