Joe concentrates his practice on corporate and securities litigation and class action litigation, and has also represented companies and individuals in a broad range of business disputes, both in court and in arbitration.

Corporate and Securities: Joe has represented numerous financial institutions and corporations in civil litigation arising from alleged violations of federal and state securities laws. He has defended companies and their officers and directors in the context of federal class action litigation and Multi-District Litigation proceedings. He has also represented clients in shareholder derivative litigation involving alleged breaches of fiduciary duty, as well as disputes over mergers and acquisitions involving publicly traded companies.

Commercial Litigation: Joe has represented clients in various business disputes arising from alleged fraud and breach of contract, as well as business torts such as interference with contractual relationships and theft of trade secrets. Joe has also advised clients in disputes arising out of the dissolution of business entities.

Representative Matters:
  • Member of team representing a national broker dealer in multi-district federal securities and ERISA class action litigation, as well as numerous state court actions and arbitrations.
  • Member of team representing international auditing firm in federal class action litigation alleging violations of the federal securities laws stemming from the firm's audit of a public company.
  • Member of several teams that have successfully resolved challenges to mergers and acquisitions involving publicly traded companies.

Joe is a contributing blogger to Thomson Reuters' News & Insight Securities Law blog.

Joe maintains an active pro bono practice representing clients in conjunction with the National Veterans Legal Services Program, the BBS Pro Bono Adoption initiative, and other pro bono matters. Prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims, Joe was a litigation associate at Shapiro Forman Allen & Sava LLP, a specialized litigation boutique in New York City. Joe also previously worked as a litigation associate in the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Joe is a native Nashvillian who enjoys traveling, and has lived abroad. He is certified by the Georgetown School of Foreign Service as speaking French at a level commensurate with professional international service. He also enjoys running and cycling in his spare time.
