Howard Lamar has been with the firm since 1989 and a Member since 1996. He counsels a variety of public and private companies, private equity, venture capital and individual investors. As a member of the firm's Corporate and Securities Practice, he advises clients in established entities, both public and private, as well as early stage growth companies. Howard's practice focuses on handling complex transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, public and private offerings on behalf of issuers and investment banking firms and venture capital financing (equity, senior and subordinated debt) for private equity and venture funds and issuers. Howard counsels companies on a variety of corporate and securities matters, including Boards of Directors and their Committees on corporate governance, public company disclosure matters, strategic analysis, special committees and start-up concerns.
Howard graduated from Vanderbilt University where he received his B.A. in 1983. Prior to attending law school, Howard spent three years with Bank of America (formerly, and during the time he was there, NCNB) where he was a corporate lending officer in NCNB's Corporate and International Banking Group. He received his juris doctor degree from Vanderbilt in 1989 and was elected to The Order of the Coif.
Howard currently serves on the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church and on its Pastor Nominating Committee. He previously served on the Executive Committee of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, as a member of the Vanderbilt University Alumni Association Board of Directors, as a member of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center Management Corporation, chairman of the Board of Trust of the Tennessee Repertory Theater and as a director of Outlook Nashville, a non-profit agency serving children and adults with severe mental and physical handicaps.
Howard is an Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a member of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. He is married to Elizabeth and has three sons, Hall, Warner and Trent.
