Greg Young joined Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in September 2001 as an associate in the firm's Environmental Practice Area.  Prior to joining the firm, he served five summer terms as a lab technician in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experimental Station in Vicksburg, Miss.

Greg graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi College in 1998 with a B.A. in history and international studies.  He received his law degree, cum laude, in May 2001 from Tulane University Law School where he was a member of the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, Phi Delta Phi and the Moot Court Board.  Greg also earned the Environmental Law Certificate while at Tulane.

Greg's experience includes the following:
  • Representation of wetlands conservation organization in connection with carbon sequestration activities
  • Representation of international manufacturer in internal investigation and in response to governmental subpoena
  • Representation of manufacturing company in property damage and personal injury toxic tort litigation
  • Representation of numerous parties with respect to storm water/erosion control permitting and compliance issues before local governments, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation ("TDEC") and Tennessee courts
  • Negotiation of Brownfield Agreements with TDEC on behalf of larger retail developers to facilitate development and avoid expensive cleanup of brownfield properties
  • Representation of numerous parties in relation to stream and wetland mitigation activities, including stream and wetland mitigation banks and negotiation of conservation easements
  • Advising and assisting numerous business clients regarding environmental due diligence and permit transfers associated with corporate transactions
  • Representation of industry and trade organizations in rulemaking process before TDEC
  • Pro bono general representation of non-profit wildlife organization

Greg served as chairman of the Environmental Law Committee of the Nashville Bar Association in 2005.  He is an avid outdoorsman and serves on volunteer committees for Ducks Unlimited.  Greg is also an Eagle Scout and volunteers with B.S.A. Troop 87 in Nashville.

Greg is married to Lauren Stanford of Tupelo, Miss.
