Former Bass, Berry & Sims PLC Attorney Named Chief of Staff and General Counsel of Environmental Working Group


Heather White, formerly of Bass, Berry & Sims PLC, has been named chief of staff and general counsel of the Environmental Working Group (EWG). In addition to her extensive management and legal responsibilities as the group’s new general counsel, White oversees EWG’s government relations department.

White was an associate at Bass, Berry & Sims PLC from 1999 to 2000. She was a recount attorney during the contested 2000 presidential election and the deputy director of women’s outreach for Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign. She was EWG’s general counsel from 2001 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, she served as counsel to U.S. Senator Russell D. Feingold (D-Wis.) on energy and environmental issues, before becoming director of education advocacy for the National Wildlife Federation. Heather holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in environmental science, and a J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
