David’s practice focuses on general commercial real estate transactions with a particular emphasis on commercial leasing in the healthcare industry. He represents a variety of clients in the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and ownership of commercial properties including retail, restaurant and office buildings. David has experience working with different types of healthcare providers, such as hospitals, surgery centers and physician groups, in connection with their various real estate needs while not losing sight of the healthcare regulatory framework in which these providers must operate.
Representative Matters include:
- Representation of a surgery center company with an interest in over 180 surgery centers throughout the country in all aspects of its real estate concerns including the acquisition, disposition, leasing and management of its surgery centers and corporate offices;
- Representation of a disease management company in the negotiation of its 250,000+ square foot corporate headquarters building as well as the lease negotiations for numerous call centers and administrative office locations throughout the country;
- Representation of a hospital company with two hospital systems in different states in connection with all manner of leasing matters, including leases for hospital, medical office building, laboratory, clinic and pharmacy space, as well as with various real estate acquisitions and dispositions matters;
- Representation of a restaurant company owning multiple locations in several states with real estate diligence, acquisition, disposition and leasing of various restaurant locations;
- Representation of various clients in connection with their local and national real estate needs including the sale of a local historic office building, the purchase of various car wash locations, the coordination of real estate diligence for the purchase / sale of two different multi-state mining companies and the leasing of multiple restaurants, administrative offices, warehouse facilities and other commercial locations.
Before pursuing law, David was a middle school teacher in Ruleville, Miss. and a high school teacher in his hometown of Laurel, Miss. David was a Teach For America corps member from 1993-1995, and has continued to support public education through his involvement with the PENCIL Partnership program by which Bass, Berry & Sims provides tutors, sponsors activities and contributes resources to Antioch Middle School in Nashville. David is also actively involved in the Bass, Berry & Sims Recruiting and Diversity Committees.
In his leisure time, David enjoys traveling, gardening and playing with his dogs DJ and Buechner.
