David Smith is an associate in the Commercial Transactions and Real Estate Practice Area.  David's practice includes representing parties involved in the purchase and sale of commercial real estate, leasing of commercial property (as landlord or as tenant), commercial lending and secured transactions.

David received his law degree in May 2001 from Vanderbilt University Law School where he was an articles editor for the Vanderbilt Law Review and a member of the Christian Legal Society.  David graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in foreign service in 1992.  While at Georgetown, David was on the School of Foreign Service Academic Council and chair of the Protestant Community Board.

Before pursuing law, David was a middle school teacher in Ruleville, MS and a high school teacher in his hometown of Laurel, MS.  He was a participant in the Americorps program, Teach For America and has continued to support public education through his involvement with the PENCIL Partnership program by which Bass, Berry & Sims provides tutors, sponsors activities and contributes resources to Antioch Middle School in Nashville.

In his leisure time, David enjoys traveling, gardening and playing with his dog DJ.
