Dan is an associate in the Healthcare Practice where he focuses his practice on operational, transactional and regulatory matters for a broad range of healthcare providers and companies including hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgery centers, clinical laboratories, walk-in clinics and physician organizations.
Contracting, Regulatory & Operational Matters: Dan offers comprehensive guidance to healthcare providers on federal and state regulatory and operational issues. He advises clients on issues associated with innovative healthcare business concepts and potential obstacles associated with implementation.
Hospitals & Health Systems: Dan analyzes regulatory requirements and operational impacts in connection with purchases and sales of healthcare facilities. He also counsels organizational leadership and Boards of Directors on day-to-day operational questions and long-term strategic planning.
Compliance & Government Investigations: Dan has experience assisting clients with government payor claims audits, including Medicare audit and overpayment disputes and appeals. Dan evaluates and revises compliance program documents, including Codes of Conduct, policies and procedures, forms and job descriptions.
Prior to joining the firm, Dan earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School where he also completed the Vanderbilt Law & Business Program. While at Vanderbilt, he received the Scholastic Excellence Award in Professional Responsibility, served as co-editor of the Health Law & Public Policy Forum and was active with the Health Law Society, OUTLaw and Vanderbilt Law School Ambassadors. Dan also served as the American Bar Association’s 5th Circuit Lt. Governor acting as a liaison among Tennessee’s law schools for the ABA.
Before entering law school, Dan worked at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Program Coordinator for its HIV vaccine research unit. As an undergraduate at Vanderbilt University, Dan earned a B.A. in Sociology, cum laude. He received the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship, was active in Student Government as a Class Senator and served as a Board Member for the Vanderbilt Prison Project.
Dan is active in the community, serving as a Team Captain for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk and participating in various activities with Habitat for Humanity, St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Human Rights Campaign and West End United Methodist Church. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House.
In his spare time, Dan enjoys hiking, jogging, and attending community and cultural events.
