Colleen Hitch joined Bass, Berry & Sims PLC in September 2004 as an associate in the firm's Litigation Practice Area, with a focus on commercial litigation.  She has extensive experience in both trial level and appellate litigation.  In addition, Colleen has drafted multiple successful motions for summary judgment in federal court and has participated in a number of appeals, both in federal and state court, including appeals involving novel issues of statutory construction and constitutional law. 

Prior to joining the firm, Colleen served as a Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Irene M. Keeley of the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and for the Honorable Samuel H. Mays, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.

Colleen graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a B.A. degree in American Studies and a minor in economics.  She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.  While in law school, she was articles/notes editor for the Journal of Law and Politics .

Colleen remains active in the Memphis community by serving as project coordinator and past chair of the Volunteer Council for Hands on Memphis and is vice chair of the board for the Grand Krewe of Ptolemy.  She has also volunteered as a mentor for Youth Villages and serves as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).  Colleen participated in the 2006-2007 class of the Memphis Bar Association Leadership Forum.

She is admitted to practice in Tennessee and Ohio.
