Bass, Berry & Sims Announces New Members
Nashville/Memphis, Tenn., January 12, 2009 - Bass, Berry & Sims PLC is pleased to announce that Robert L. Brewer, Joshua R. Denton, Brian D. Roark, and Clarence A. Wilbon have been elected to Membership in the firm.
Bob Brewer (Nashville) practices in Intellectual Property and Technology, with particular emphasis on technology transactions, IP issues in corporate transactions, healthcare information technology, licensing and outsourcing arrangements, and other transactions involving the development, commercialization and transfer of technology and intellectual property rights. Bob is a past chair of the Software Licensing Section of the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Licensing and Transactions Committee, and an active member of the Computer Law Association, the International Trademark Association, the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Tennessee Bar Association. Bob attended Indiana University-Bloomington, Stetson University Law and finished at Vanderbilt University School of Law.
Joshua Denton (Nashville) concentrates on antitrust and trade practices litigation and counseling, class action litigation, real estate litigation, complex commercial litigation and debtor-creditor relations. Josh is an editor of the Tennessee chapter of the American Bar Association's State Antitrust Practice and Statutes series and recently co-authored "Providing a Safe Harbor for Those Who Play by the Rules: The Case for a Strong Regulatory Compliance Defense," which was published by the Utah Law Review. Josh is a member of the ABA's Antitrust Section and has served as a speaker on various antitrust compliance and ethics issues. He received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he served as an associate editor of the Kentucky Law Journal. Josh also graduated from the University of Kentucky with a B.A. in journalism and political science. He is admitted to practice law in Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana.
Brian Roark (Nashville) specializes in handling complex commercial litigation, including healthcare, securities, and software litigation. He has represented several healthcare companies in conducting internal investigations, responding to government inquiries and defending whistleblower lawsuits, and currently serves as the chair of the firm's Litigation Technology Committee. Brian graduated summa cum laude from Lipscomb University with a B.A. in English. He received his law degree with honors from the University of North Carolina, where he served as articles editor of the North Carolina Law Review. Prior to joining the firm, he served as judicial clerk to the Honorable James C. Fox, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Brian currently serves on the board of Safe Haven Family Shelter.
Clarence Wilbon (Memphis) represents national companies and financial institutions in commercial cases and employment disputes. He serves on the firm's Law School Hiring and Diversity Committees and is a founding member of the firm’s African-American Affinity Group. He is the vice president of the Board of Trustees of Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal School in Memphis. He is also active in coaching youth sports programs. Clarence is a former director of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division, vice chairman of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Law School Outreach Committee, co-chairman of the American Bar Association’s Banking and Lender Liability Litigation Subcommittee, and a graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Leadership Law Program Class of 2008, which selects young lawyers who are emerging leaders in their communities and the legal profession. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Clarence is a graduate of Arkansas State University (B.A. Criminology, 1996) and Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville (J.D. with honors, 2000).
