Alonda is a Member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice. She is a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee and a charter member of the firm’s African-American Affinity Group. She also served on the firm’s Law School Hiring Committee for six years. Alonda’s practice focuses on representing management in all aspects of labor and employment, including workers’ compensation.
Administrative and Regulatory Proceedings: Alonda has represented clients in proceedings before various state and federal administrative agencies including the EEOC, DOL, Tennessee Human Rights Commission and the State of Florida Division of Administrative Hearings.
Labor and Employment: Alonda has employment litigation experience in the areas of race, gender, age, national origin and disability discrimination, harassment, retaliation, FMLA, wage and hour, and workers’ compensation. She also conducts investigations into harassment and whistleblower claims. Alonda provides assistance and counseling to employers on a variety of employment matters, including: I-9 compliance, hiring, discipline, terminations, preparation and revision of employee handbooks; drafting employment, severance, confidentiality, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements; and internal wage and hour audits. She regularly holds trainings and seminars on employment law.
Representative Matters Include:
- Successful defense of a collective action with a potential class of over 10,000 current and former employees.
- Successful defense of a major private university in numerous cases under Title VII, ADEA, ADA and FMLA.
- Successful defense of a non-profit dialysis clinic in gender and disability discrimination/retaliation cases in Ohio and Georgia.
- Successful defense of a North American wholesale and retail marketer of footwear in sexual harassment case.
- Successful defense of wage and hour claims for beer distributer.
- Successful defense of § 1981 claim against private college.
- Successful defense in jury trial for national restaurant chain.
- Successful defense of aerospace engineering company in numerous union arbitrations involving both disciplinary actions and contract interpretation.
- Successful defense of various employers on state law employment claims including retaliatory discharge.
- Successful enforcement of a non-competition and non-disclosure agreement on behalf of a lawn and garden company.
Alonda is married to her high school sweetheart, Sir McCutcheon. As an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., she remains dedicated to community service. Alonda serves on the Thistle Farms Managing Council and on several committees within her church.
