Bass, Berry & Sims is committed to identify, recruit and retain attorneys who will contribute varied backgrounds and perspectives to the overall diversity of the firm.
Each year we select law schools for our on-campus interviews based in part on the diversity of the school’s student body. In addition, we participate in the following minority job fairs:
- The Southeastern Minority Job Fair in Atlanta
- The GLBT-sponsored Lavender Law Conference
- The Damali Booker 1L Minority Job Fair in Nashville
- Tennessee Bar Association Diversity Job Fair in Nashville
As a member of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), the firm participates in the LCLD 1L Scholars Program which provides summer clerkships for 1L law students. The overall goal of the LCLD 1L Scholars Program is to increase diversity in the legal profession.
It is not enough to hire diverse attorneys. We are committed to developing all of our attorneys, including our diverse attorneys, into productive members and managers of the firm. As part of our diversity plan, we actively monitor (through the Diversity Committee, as well as the Professional Development Committee and the firm's practice chairs) the practice development and assignments of associates to ensure that we are effectively developing attorneys who contribute to the firm's diversity.
