Government Relations

Bass, Berry & Sims has been recognized for many years as an effective advocate of its clients' interests in matters involving state legislative and administrative actions.

The firm's government relations lawyers and staff represent clients in their relationships with state governmental entities, from the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee to the various departments, agencies, boards and commissions of state government.

The firm's attorneys are active in the representation of parties before the Health Services and Development Agency on matters relating to certificates of need.  Moreover, all aspects of state government procurement matters are frequently handled by the firm - from initial inquiries to contract negotiations to dispute resolution.

Members of the Government Relations Practice Area:
  • analyze and respond to proposed administrative rules
  • assist in drafting legislation
  • communicate clients' interests to legislators, organizations and associations to secure a broad base of support for our clients' position
  • monitor the progress of bills from introduction through the legislative process
  • appear on behalf of clients in negotiations, proceedings and hearings.

The firm's reputation for effectiveness was underscored by its selection as Tennessee's sole representative in the State Capital Global Law Firm Group, an association of law firms in each of the 50 states chosen for the significance of their practice in that state's capital city and the strength of the government relations practice.  Member firms of the State Capital Global Law Firm Group practice independently and not in a relationship for the joint practice of law.  Government relations attorney J. Richard Lodge, Jr. served as chair of the State Capital Global Law Firm Group in 1998.
